Laika is the tragic story of one of the first creatures sent to space during the height of the Space Race between the United States and the Soviet Union. In order to determine the safety of humans outside of Earth's atmosphere, animals were sent without the expectation of survival. Laika has since become a cultural icon and a cautionary tale.
This illustration was later turned into a one-color screenprint and printed on bags, back patches, and posters.
