Despite her short life, Amy Winehouse left an indelible mark on music and pop culture and Amy Winehouse: Beyond Black was created by the Winehouse’s close friend and stylist, Naomi Perry. Featuring stunning still life images of the singer’s wardrobe, ephemera, and day-to-day items like her makeup bag and extensive interviews with Winehouse’s closest friends.
To capture the intimacy of the subject matter I chose to abstract Winehouse’s eyes (and her famed thick eyeliner), the covers portrays the “window to the soul.” The roughness of the images emulates the newsprint that used to spread tabloid stories about the singer’s troubled personal life.
